The town of Genesee is home to three unincorporated communities in Waukesha County, including Genesee Depot, Bethesda, and Saylesville.

Genesee Depot earned its name for the train station of the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad, known then as the Wisconsin and Calumet Railroad. This area was first settled in 1837, and by the late nineteenth century, the town had a post office, two stores, a lumberyard, a woolen factory, a blacksmith shop, slaughterhouse, grain elevator, and more. Bethesda, in its early days in the mid-nineteenth century, was a tourist resort named for Bethesda Park, designed around a medicinal spring that Richard Dunbar developed.
